University Physics
Published in Hardcover by International Thomson Publishing (August, 1997)
Authors: Alvin Hudson and Rex Nelson
Average review score:

Excellent presentation of basic physics
I had physics in my first year of engineering studies and this was the recommended textbook. Even then, the explanations and examples in the book were often more illustrative and simple than our professor's version, and up to now I have always taken this book with me just in case a physical problem rears its nasty head somewhere. The examples, exercises and annexes replete with data help with comprehension and serve as a reference aid; the quotes introducing each chapter are priceless. All in all a very useful book for students.

This book has it all!
The book itself is amazing. It shows the true power of physics. It is a must for the true physicist to have in his book collection. And you can't beat the price!

Vanishing Cultures of South Africa: Changing Customs in a Changing World
Published in Hardcover by Rizzoli (June, 1998)
Authors: Peter Magubane, Alan Mountain, and Nelson Mandela
Average review score:

WAITING FOR A BOOK
When this book was first published, here in South Africa its promotion was good. I decided this was my type of book, so I went shopping. None of the bookshops that I usually use had it and so I placed an order at a couple of the stores (explaining I also had another order somewhere else.

It really was worth waiting for, the photography is outstanding. There is also enough information for people who do not live in Africa - just to wet their taste buds

South Africa has had plenty of problems in the past but when I see a book like this, I am very honoured as I know these tribes, they are colourful and very proud.

A fascinating insight into South African cultures
This richly illustrated book is a fascinating look at the various traditional black cultures in South Africa. The photographer spent time with different tribal peoples, experiencing their day-to-day lives. His magnificent photographs allow us a glimpse into these vanishing worlds as they adapt to modern, urban influences. For travellers interested in meeting people and armchair anthropologists, this is an indispensable read.

Visions of the Shaman 2003 Calendar
Published in Paperback by Amber Lotus (July, 2002)
Authors: Helen Nelson-Reed and Amber Lotus Publishing
Average review score:

new calendar by watercolorist Helena Nelson Reed
I was pleased to find this new calendar by Nelson - Reed, with poetic verse written by the artist to acccompany each image, as Ive bought her Goddess calendar for years. This calendar addresses a variety of shamanic subjects -shape shifting, shamanic journeying, dreams and visions. Men, women, animals and birds are incorprated in mythic themes exploring realms of the collective consciousness. Lots of new stuff for Nelson Reed fans!

Visions of the Shaman is breathtaking!
Ms. Nelson-Reed's Visions of the Shaman calendar offers the viewer a portal into their imagination, tapping ancient wellsprings of knowledge and emotion. The vibrancy, depth and intricacy of the water color images are breathtaking. Additionally, Helena writes complementary monthly text that explores the heart and experience of shamanism. Her art reflects the wisdom and strength that come from an obvious devotion to research and detail and a sincere understanding and respect for indigenous shamanic practice. You will find that the Visions of the Shaman paintings have an eternal quality that make the beauty within this calendar something time will not diminish.

War Against the Poor: Low-Intensity Conflict and Christian Faith
Published in Paperback by Orbis Books (December, 1990)
Author: Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer
Average review score:

The painful truth
Jack tells the reader the painful, sad truth about what the U.S. policy has been in Central America for the last 50 years. As a lay missionary living in Haiti, Honduras, Columbia, etc. I can tell you this horror story is sadly true, - our federal military is guilty of genocide in these countries. I read the book 5 years ago, did not want to believe my federal tax dollars were paying for these horrors. I did not want to believe what I read, so I lived there. Sadly it's true. Someone once said that the only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good people to remain silent." We know the sins of the Nazis because they lost the war. The U.S. military hasn't lost the war in Central America yet because of their power, but this empire will fall, as all Empires do. God is not mocked, a man reaps what he sows, and so too with nations. As Sandra Price, a North American nun who lived in Nicaragua during the U.S. financed and directed war against the Nicaraguan people said, "Many North Americans will be paying before God and in the afterlife for these crimes." I pray our nation return to God before He strikes our nation down. The nation will fall on this path, we have sown death and terror among our neighbors for decades with the justification of "american interest" and "national security" and "fighting communism." those excuses wont hold up before God almighty who commanded us "Love one another" and for the Christians "Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you." May God have mercy on our nation, which has left God so far behind.

Speaking truth to power: "FreedomFighters" exposed.
If my memory serves me well, a high official in the Brazilian Catholic church stated, "... when I feed the poor they call me a saint; when I ask why the poor have no food they call me a Communist..." "WAR AGAINST THE POOR... " sheds the light on the so-called Reaganite "FreedomFighters" and exposes them for the terrorists they were and the complicity of the US agencies that created them.

Western Political Thought: From Socrates to the Age of Ideology
Published in Hardcover by Prentice Hall College Div (January, 1982)
Author: Brian R. Nelson

Just go buy it
I originally purchased this book for a Poli Sci class and lost it sometime after the class. A few years later I desperately wanted to re-read certain portions ( turned out to be all of it ) and actually bought it again. While it's obviously a summarization of many political ideologies, the breadth of information is excellent.

One of the best social science books I've read
I first read the book in POLSC 201: Intro to Political Theory. I found the book to be well written and easy to understand. I kept the book after the course was over and have since referred back to this book for many other classes. I recommend this book to all Liberal Arts and Social Science majors.

Whale Comedian, The

Wonderfully illustrated. Enjoyable. My child loves it.
The book is wonderfully illustrated. The cover itself catches the potential reader. It is truly an enjoyable read with an innovative story. My child loves it.

Whale Comedian...excellent reading for children
As a mother of 5 children, I'm always on the look out for good children's books...I found that and more in the book entitled THE WHALE COMEDIAN by Martin Nelson Burton. The story of little Finston and how his dreams were realized, is done in a clever and funny way. The illustrations (by Charles Jordon) are some of the best I've seen in a children's book....very colorful with lots of expression and detail. There is nothing commerical about this book. A story of a little boy with a big dream and how it is realized. It can make your children believe that they can be anything they want in life...whether it be a store clerk, a scientist that gives people superpowers, or even a whale comedian.

Why we must abolish the income tax and the IRS : a special report on the national sales tax
Published in Unknown Binding by AFR Publications ()
Author: Nelson Hultberg
Average review score:

This Is Where It's At!
If you're looking here, you're looking fo real answers.

The truth is that, if the fed gov was operation within its constitutional limits we wouldn't need the N.R.S.T., but such a method of taxation is a step in the right direction.

We must be sure to repeal the 16th amendment first, or we may end up with a worst-case scenario: An N.R.S.T. AND an income tax both!

Be sure also to read "Freedom in Chains" by James Bovard.

Makes the case that a national sales tax would help everyone
I thought this book was excellent. He demonstrates that a national sales tax truly would work, that it would raise enough money to operate the government with less strain on the tax-paying public. And he backs it up with all the facts and figures. He shows that the money that we would save each year just supporting accountants, tax preparers, and tax lawyers would represent billions of dollars in savings. And it would reel in the ever growing underground economy because even dope peddlers and gangsters have to consume every time they buy food, clothes, houses, cars or whatever. There is just no good reason not to try this.

Wildflowers: Designs for Applique & Quilting
Published in Paperback by C & T Pub (April, 1998)
Authors: Carol Armstrong, Annie Nelson, and Diana Roberts
Average review score:

Beautiful applique
The applique designs are lovely, realistic, and disarmingly simple. Watch out for small applique pieces. The individual flower designs seem to me to work better than the larger composition pieces shown, but all in all a refreshing new look.

Wonderful, realistic, wild flowers.
The author and designer of this book has a great sense of humor. Her designs are realistic and her technique is simple and easy to understand. Gone is the pressure to be perfect because nature is not perfect. The color plates give excellent ideas on use of the various line drawings. Designs are presented so they may be mixed to create a realistic flower garden appearance.

Willie brings to life the western sprit as only he can.

Such Entertainment
Only in the past few years have I begun to truly appreciate Louis L'Amour and his colorful stories of the wild west, good guys and bad guys. From the first moment of listening to this recording featuring the endearing and timeless voice of Willie Nelson, I was a fan for life of both the author and singer/songwriter and now narrator of audiobooks. Willie brings the characters Mr. L'Amour has created to full bloom, allowing the listener to take a step back in time to the days of the good, the bad and the ugly.

I Loved this recording, and plan on buying the full collection of Willie Nelson and his buddies, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson and Johnny Cash reading more of Louis L'Amour's novellas.
